100% Pinot Noir from Vidal's Keltern Vineyard situated in Maraekakaho, a cooler sub-region of Hawkes Bay.
Destemmed bunches were lightly crushed, and cold soaked on skins at 10-12°C for up to 10 days. Ferments were hand plunged. Some batches were hot fermented to maximise extraction, while others were kept cooler to retain fruit characters. Then pressed and run to 30% new French barriques where it underwent malolactic fermentation. Left in barrel on lees until the following summer, then gently egg white fined, minimally filtered, blended and bottled.
Beautifully fragrant red berry and floral aromas combine with flavours of cherry, spice and earthy undertones on a finely textured palate. Enjoyable in its youth, this single vineyard wine will gain further complexity with time.
