95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Chateau La Croix Bonneau, a modest property of 4 hectares in Montagne, the village just to the north of Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux region.
The Merlot grapes were fermented in small pyramid-shaped stainless steel tanks before ageing for 14 months in oak barrels, of which one-third was new and the rest between 1 and 2 years old, to ensure complexity and a mellow character. The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was vinified in small wooden vats with punching down of the cap.
An intense bouquet full of red fruit aromas. The palate is full of character with fine, silky tannins and berry flavours with a savoury edge. Ageing in top quality French oak barrels has given a complex mellow, long finish without overpowering the juiciness of the Merlot fruit.
