85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon came mainly from younger vineyards; Avery, Rise, Hollow and Silage. The Merlot came from the Rise and Avery vineyards. Balnaves is situated at the southern end of the famous Coonawarra ‘Terra Rossa‘ strip.
After fermentation the wine was matured for 17 months in new and used French oak from St Martin, Seguin Moreau, Darguad and Jaegle and Taransaud, prior to bottling.
Deep red in colour. Rich aromas with perfectly ripened dark blackberry, elderberry and cassis fruit. Medium-bodied, but intense with coffee and vanilla characters adding to the dark fruit. A long and textured finish with fine, grainy grape tannins.
