100% Pinot Noir from a selection of 10 to 20 year old Martinborough Pinot plots which tend to show lifted fruit aromatics.
Hand-picked fruit was destemmed with as much whole-berry as possible, followed by 2 to 6 days pre-fermentation maceration. Indigenous yeast and hand-plunged throughout ferment, 2 weeks total tank time and complete malolactic fermentation in barrel; 9 months in 20% new French oak.
More savoury than previous vintages, the nose exudes spice, red liquorice and a medley of bramble fruit. All carry through on to the palate with a portion of old vines providing weight and a fine line and length. Shows great balance and seductiveness, the hallmark of Crimson Pinot Noir.
